NEW YORK (December 1, 2022) — Today, TopResume, the world's largest resume-writing service, announced the results of its U.S. Job Seeker Index for November 2022.

The TopResume Index of U.S. Job Seeker Sentiment, which tracks how job seekers are feeling about job-market conditions and overall job security, hit an all-time low in November (83), surpassing the previous all-time low set back in September (89) — an overall 6.7% decrease MoM and a 19.4% decrease YoY. Similarly, the Current Conditions Index (93) and Expectations Index (77) both posted their lowest scores since the index was first launched in April 2021.

With waves of layoffs sweeping across the U.S., it's no wonder that job seekers are feeling increasingly pessimistic in both their job security and the job market. 'Pink slip paranoia' is driving a larger percentage of employed professionals to update their resumes in preparation for what may happen next; the "the percentage of job seekers who identified as employed in the November index increased by 13% compared to October.

TopResume U.S. Job Seeker Sentiment Index

Inspired by the same methodology used by the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index (UMCSENT), the TopResume Index of U.S. Job Seeker Sentiment is conducted online within the United States. Since it was first calculated and benchmarked in April 2021, the survey has collected data from 32,830 adults who've identified as active job seekers in the United States. Respondents are randomly selected from among TopResume's site users each month to share their opinions on current conditions and future job market and workplace expectations, and the findings are at a 99% confidence level with margin of error +/-3%.
